The Young National Chef of the Year competition which is also known as YNCOTY allows budding chefs between the ages of 18-23 to prove their skills in a serious of cooking events. The Craft Guild of Chefs has recently revealed 7 out of the 8 finalists that will take part in one last event on October the 8th 2013 where one will be crowned the winner.
The YNCOTY semi-finals took place on the 18th of June at Sheffield City College and on the 2nd of July at the University of West London. Co-incidentally the National Chef of the Year Semi Finals also took place at the same time.
This year’s competition took a slightly different route as judges gave four lucky chefs guaranteed places in the finals while the rest were made to compete in numerous semi-finals until a further 4 were chosen. The last position will be announced on the 15th of July at the Academy of Culinary Arts Dinner. Finalists so far are:
- Rory Welch from the Broad Chare Pub, Newcastle
- Danny Hoang from the Viajante, London
- David Alexander Squire from Danesfield House, Marlow
- Ruth Hansom from the Boundary Restaurant, London
- Ben Champkin from the Elephant Restaurant, Torquay
- Louisa May Matthews from Eton College, Sodexo
- Daniel Akrigg from Rogan & Company.
