Chef Tips – Preparing strawberries

As the Summer season is in full swing, the British favourite “strawberries” often become a staple dessert / snack of many households. Here we supply you with some very simple advice of how to prepare your strawberries ready for consumption.

It’s always best to wash your strawberries first to make sure that any excess dirt is removed from the fruit Remember they have been growing from the ground after all. Simply empty your punnet of strawberries into a sieve or colander and rinse with water.

Secondly empty your strawberries onto a clean chopping board or clean tea towel to let the air get to them and to let them dry.

Once you are satisfied that they are dry you will need to grab a straw. The straw is going to help you remove the green stem. Push the straw up through the bottom of the strawberry through the middle so that the green stem is popped out the top.

This method is a great way to ensure that you minimise any strawberry loss.
Next pop your strawberries in the fridge so that they remain cool and fresh ready for your consumption.
