Eating a healthy and balanced diet is becoming a critical factor that many government and health organisations are trying to promote. However many people are still unsure on how to produce a healthy meal. Here is some basic advice you can follow in relation to eating healthily.

  • Be conscious of how many calories you are consuming. If you are preparing a meal check the calorie quantities on the various different ingredients and be wary of the final calorific amount once food products are all added together.
  • Control your portion size; don’t just fill the plate up until you can’t fit any more on.
  • Fruit and vegetables, again another food source that should be added to every meal. The standard guidance on eating fruit and vegetables is to eat five portions every day. You should make sure that a large proportion of your plate is made up of this type of food. 
  • Carbohydrates, these should only take up a third of your portion size. They are crucial for energy stores and can keep you feeling full for longer.
  • Meat/ Protein – Also a critical part of your diet, experts advise you should pleat should contain a piece of meat the size of your palm.
  • Sugar/Fat, although it is important to have some fat in your diet, this is an area of food that should really be restricted too much of this category can have damaging effects on your health.
