Establish Yourself as an Innovator

You need to make a name for yourself.

Show exactly why you deserve that management spot and ensure that your work means you can’t be replaced.

Either way, you need to establish yourself as an innovator, someone who will consistently work to improve the business in one way or another, whether this be for customers, employees, or both.

Create a Positive Work Environment

Nothing paints a better picture of a manager than a team who are happy and working hard. It shows that you’re doing right and shows you’re putting the needs of your employees first.

This can really make the difference when it comes to the effort and productivity of your team, which will in turn result in an engaged workforce who will bestow this positivity upon your customers.

Nothing reflects on a manager better than a great team underneath them.

Undertake and Provide the Right Training

Ensure that you’ve received or are asking for the correct training. In order to be successful, you will want to learn from the best. It can be an overall management course, or it could be on a small sector of management that you struggle with.

Don’t be afraid to ask for training to better yourself, as long as you have a valid reason and it will help your job role, your boss should have no issue with this.

If you’re working towards a management role, remember that all qualifications will always look good on a CV too and make you more hireable for a managerial role.

In return when you’re a manager, you must provide and offer the appropriate training to your employees to help them shine in their job role and open them up to the same opportunities as you!

Listen to Your Customers

Although it’s important to listen to your team, a lot of their gripes can be solved with a few changes in the running of the establishment.

The people who will really be honest with you about how your restaurant is run are your customers – they’re entitled to the best service and if they don’t get it, you’ll be sure to know about it!

Listening to your customers and doing your best to rectify any mistakes or respond to positive feedback is a great way to excel as a manager and influence your customers’ attitude.

Be a Leader, Not a Manager

If you want your team to follow in your example, it’s important to be a leader rather than just a manager.

There are certain qualities of a manager that denote a bossy and uninspiring dictator, whereas the connotations of a leader are that of someone who will encourage people forward in their role.

Making sure to embody more qualities of a leader rather than a manager can make all the difference as to how your establishment is run.
