Advice for Front of House Staff

When waiting tables, customer service is part of the job. No matter how busy or stressed you may find yourself, your employer will be expecting you to always present yourself well and be attentive to your customers. You will also find that the more helpful you are, the more satisfied your customers will be, and your efforts could very well be reflected in any tips they may leave.

Here are 3 tips to help you give great customer service in your Front of House role:

Be Polite, Friendly and Helpful

As a Front of House member of staff, you are the first impression of the restaurant, as well as the customer’s point of communication throughout their visit so you need to be polite, friendly and helpful. Good customer service leaves a lasting impression on people and it is often the reason why they may or may not visit again. Word of mouth is also a great way to get your restaurant known and good customer service will affect whether they recommend your restaurant to other people they know to bring in those extra customers for you.

Suggest Your Favourites on the Menu

Quite often people can struggle to decide what to order when looking at the menu, or maybe they’ll just go for what they know and trust and not get to experience any of the other great plates on offer. If you were to recommend your favourite dish, you may be able to give them something new to try, as well as making their experience a little more personal.

Pay Attention to the Details

If you remember to pay attention to the details when serving your tables, you could really elevate someone’s dining experience. Did your customer want chocolate sprinkles on their cappuccino? Did they want fries or new potatoes? How did they want their steak cooked? If you can do what you can to maximise your customers experience, they will leave feeling really satisfied.
