Chef Essentials

Clothing

You need to look professional and ready to work. If you don’t look the part from the off, people are going to be wasting what could be important prepping time to try and get you the right uniform.

Make sure you have the correct footwear which are slip off safety shoes, chef whites or blacks, (depending on the company) multiple aprons are always good in case one gets ruined and a correct chefs hat.

You’re not just looking the part, you are showing people that you are prepared and ready to get stuck in to the job in hand.

Knives

It’s really important to have your own set of knives when going into a new kitchen. No chef likes people borrowing their equipment, because it usually results in things getting lost or misplaced.

A basic knife set should consist of a fillet knife, a cooks knife, boning knife, paring knife and a peeler. Make sure you have a wallet to secure them and a sharpener so that your blades are sharp enough.

Health & Safety Certificates

You must be sure that you have your food hygiene certificates and that they are all up to date.
