Have you landed an interview for your dream job as a chef? Follow these tips for the best chance of a successful interview.
- Do your research about the company that will be employing you and be prepared to answer why you want to become a chef there
- Research into the type of food that you will have to be making. Make sure you can talk about experience in cooking a selection of dishes offered on the menu
- Express a good knowledge of nutrition
- Be prepared to talk about your career goals, if an employer can see that you are passionate about cooking this is bound to score you points
- Revise kitchen hygiene and food safety rules so that you are prepared for any questions regarding this.
- If you are required to demonstrate your cooking skills make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing, for e.g. wear sensible shoes and tie any long hair back.
- You might also be prepared to provide a portfolio- this is your chance to show your excellent examples of what you are capable of producing, make sure your portfolio is kept up to date and is kept in a good condition!
- Prepare a few questions that you can ask the interviewer at the end
- Don’t be late to your interview; make sure you have a good idea how to get to your interview and how long it is going to take you. Be mindful of traffic when you are planning your journey time
